The Glorious Unseen “Tonight The Stars Speak” Album Review

When I first heard The Glorious Unseen’s Tonight the Stars Speak it was a feeling of euphoria. At that time, I couldn’t listen to worship music. In this album I found a band and songs that related to my struggles and doubt in an honest manner. This album forever changed how I listened to worship music.

Hear Our Prayers is an honest expression of God accepting a broken soul’s cries for redemption. There is a sense of intimacy and ambience within this song. Forever Holy continues the ambience but becomes more upbeat through the middle of the song. The theme is accepting that our God won’t go away even when we deserve it. Meet us Here provides us with an invitation for God to be known in our lives. This song is more upbeat with multiple crashes and builds. Tonight The Stars Speak goes back to the intimate style of previous songs. The theme is asking us knowing God in an intimate way.

Wrapped Up In You is a song about being intimate with God. This chorus comes at the listener with a fury and stays this way for the remainder of the song. Oh Praise Him is a cover from David Crowder Band with a twist. This is the most upbeat song of the record, which provides complexity. The topic is we should never stop praising God. Where Your Glory Dwells is one of the more upbeat tracks from the record. In the middle of the song there is an awesome guitar solo. The theme is wanting to live by God’s calling and not our own.

Embracing the Call is based of Psalm 23, which is about knowing God in the midst of struggle. Burn in Me is the most raw and honest track of the record. I love the piano and vocals at the beginning of the track. This song is about wanting to know God in a deeper way and having faith when we can’t feel anything. Close to Your Heart adds a perfect ending to the record. This song is very intimate and ambient then goes into a joyous roar and reflects our desire to be constantly coming closer to God.

The vocals were well done on this album. There is a predominant male voice with female vocal additions. You can hear the urgency and passion in the voices. The instrumentation adds depth without overpowering the vocals. The lyrics are what make this record stand on it’s own. They are honest and raw lyrics about struggle, our sinful nature, and doubt that we all have. In the midst of all that, God is present and accepting.

I would rate this record a 4.75 out of 5. This is a powerful record that I continue to enjoy. My favorite song is Burn in Me. I love the urgency of the lyrics, vocals, and instrumentation.

You can purchase this record on Amazon and iTunes.
