I had the opportunity to cover Paradise Fears on The Good Guys & A Girl Tour when they came through Houston on March 3, 2015. I’ve known this band for quite a few years now, and all I can say is that they always put on a great show no matter what is going on in their lives. The entire band has always had great stage presence, but they have grown a lot in the past few years and really nailed it Tuesday night.
During their set, they played a mix of older and newer songs. An old favorite and one of their most well-known songs, ‘Sanctuary’, was played in the middle of their set. My favorite part of the song is when Sam Miller breaks out into spoken word. The fans get really into it and there is a whole chorus of people screaming out the lyrics. It’s really humbling and makes you feel as if you aren’t alone. They also played one of their newer songs, ‘Who We Were With’, which is a catchy song about learning to love who you are with. A new favorite of mine was also played, ‘Who We Are’, that was released on the extended version of the album, ‘Battle Scars’. This song is a fictional story about a single mom going through some hardships, but is able to create hope to keep herself going, while also inspiring others to keep going as well.
Overall, Paradise Fears put on a killer show. If you are able to make it out to one of their shows, I highly recommend that you do. They will be heading out to the east coast soon for the last leg of The Good Guys & A Girl Tour with Alex & Sierra and Andy Grammer.
