Do you enjoy listening to unique music riffs, incredible lyrics, and just plain fun songs? Then you need to listen to Set It Off’s latest album, “Duality.” It is the best thing since sliced bread, seriously.
The album starts out with “The Haunting,” which is a creepily wonderful song about adultery. The lyrics pour out anger and resent toward the adulterer with lines like, “Go on, wear that scarlet letter,” and “Good luck finding something better.” But that isn’t even the best song on this album. A following song, “Forever Stuck in Our Youth,” relays how no matter what, being young at heart is more fun than being a grouchy grown-up. My favorite song on the album, “Why Worry,” follows. I love this song, because it’s all about not stressing or worrying about what is going on in life and taking the time to relax and go with the flow. With lyrics like, “Sick of hearing this hakuna matata motto from people who won the lotto, we’re not that lucky,” the song is full of positive thinking and pushing out the negatives with the mantra of “don’t worry, be happy.” A few songs later is the album’s namesake, “Duality,” which reveals the dual sides of being human, good and evil. The song itself has some duality musically and lyrically by going up and down with vocals and simply giving off a mysterious essence. The last few songs start to slow the flow down a bit with “Tomorrow,” a song about having another chance. The song says, “There’s always another day, another night. A bittersweet blessing in disguise.” Basically, don’t worry about what happened today, you always have tomorrow. The album ends with an ear-pleasing ballad, “Miss Mysterious,” about lies and wearing masks. The song has a beautiful melody and lyrics that end the album in such a great way – from fast paced jams to a slow paced ballad.
So…now that you have the basic layout of this album, do you want to listen to it? I thought so.
