I had the privilege of interviewing Christian Prince, the guitarist of Rival Choir. In this interview we talk about the name change, new album, and so much more.
I enjoyed interviewing Christian. I am inspired by his passion for Jesus and being missional. We were able to establish a rapport. This helped both of us open up more, which gave this interview another level of depth. This process made me even more of a fan.
Rob: Who is Rival Choir?
Christian: Rival Choir is a Christian band. Nothing has changed besides being more direct.
Rob: Why did you change your name?
Christian: We turned into a different band, which was a natural thing. We talked about it. This process of rebranding has made us more excited. There aren’t any more founding members and we have a different sound and style.
Rob: How have your fans reacted to your new direction?
Christian: They have reacted well and are supportive. We were expecting more negative. The Youtube comments have been tame.
Rob: “ I Believe, Help My Unbelief” comes out on February 5, 2016. What inspired the title?
Christian: Josiah our vocalist came up with the title before our name change. We wanted it to be real sounding and honest. This is where we are. We are big fans of Brand New and As Cities Burn fans.
Rob: What is the song “Aftermath” about?
Christian: This song is about porn addiction and is relatable. This goes with the theme. It is a stumbling block for many people.
Rob: How important is be missional?
Christian: It is really important. It isn’t being a Christian on the road. It is hard to find purpose when not doing it for God. This is about being obedient to God. This is satisfying and something I love. It is about forming relationships and speaking life to people. People can related to our music and be blessed.
Rob: What is your favorite activity to do when your home?
Christian: I am getting back into skating. I went to the skate park. I am into the science of coffee. It is a community building. The rest of my band members maintain normal lives.
Rob: What are your plans for 2016?
Christian: Everything is up in the air. We plan on doing summer festivals. There will be new t-shirt designs and a music video.
Rob: Thank you for your time.
Christian: Thank you.
