Convictions Interview

Convictions

Convictions has become one of my favorite Christian Metalcore bands. Their lyrics are convicting and sound makes you want to worship God. Once you listen to the first verse you will be hooked.

Rob: Who is Convictions?

Convictions: Convictions is a Christian Metalcore band based out of Toledo, Ohio. We’ve set out to share our faith and passion through music which we call Aggressive Worship.

Rob: Where does your name come from?

Convictions: The name comes from the lyrical content we write. We try and write about our convictions and personal subjects that most artists would typically avoid.

Rob: What is your song “Brother’s Blood” about?

Convictions: The song “Brother’s Blood” is a song I wrote about my younger brother. As a Christian we often think about what the afterlife might be like and the loved ones we will see again. The idea of not seeing a loved one there that doesn’t share your beliefs can be traumatic and at times a helpless feeling, but also a very selfish feeling. We cannot force faith on someone and you have to let people think for themselves. In my position that’s exactly the case. My younger brother is not a believer and I have to learn to let go and let him make his own choices in life. I have nothing but love and respect for him and others like him but I have to share my perspective.

Rob: What inspired the title of your new album “I Will Become”?

Convictions: The title for our album “I Will Become” came from my father actually. Years ago around 2012 when I joined Convictions I remember telling my Dad how excited I was about joining a Christian band. At the time I was still very new to the faith so I expected my dad to be very supportive since he is a believer as well. Turns out he wasn’t exactly as enthusiastic since I had been in lots of non-spiritual bands in the past that didn’t do so well. My Dad was very suspicious of my motives joining this band and told me very firmly if I’m going to join this band that I have to put everything into this and I have to walk the walk basically. I remember driving home after that long conversation thinking, “Mike, you have to become a man of God and that’s where the title ” I Will Become” came from.

Rob: What are the themes of this record?

Convictions: The themes of the record revolve around all the experiences and trials every member has faced which has led us here and made us into who we’ve become.

Rob: How did you get signed to InVogue Records?

Convictions: Getting signed to InVogue was a major milestone for Convictions! We spent years searching for the perfect team. InVogue was hands down the best choice for us.

Rob: What is the best thing about being from Ohio?

Convictions: The best thing about Ohio is the music scene! So many artist come from here and the shows are insane. We love it here.

Rob: What is your favorite restaurant in Freemont, Ohio?

Convictions: In Fremont, after practice, we go to a local restaurant chain called Frickers. It’s basically a Buffalo Wild Wings but way, way, way better! All of our business and brainstorming goes down there l. The hot wings are the best!

Rob: What are your plans for 2016?

Convictions: In 2016 we plan to support the “I will Become” record with relentless touring. We can’t wait to see you all on the road!!!

You can purchase “I Will Become” at iTunes and InVogue Records.
