I had the opportunity to interview Anthony, vocals and guitar, with We Outspoken. We Outspoken is a Pop Punk band from Toronto. In this interview, we talk about their influences and new music.
Rob: Who is We Outspoken?
Anthony: We are Anthony (vocals/guitar), Alex (drums), Joe (guitar/vocals) and Chris (bass)
Rob: How did the band form?
Anthony: We started in the early days of pop punk, right when Blink 182 exploded. I wanted to start a band so I asked my brother Alex if he wanted to play drums. I already played guitar. After Alex said yes we asked our friend if he wanted to play bass. We were actually a three piece for a while. We added a guitarist in 2005 and stuck with being a four piece ever since. We were very young, 12-13 years of age, when we started. Things didn’t get really serious until about 2009.
Rob: Which bands have influenced you?
Anthony: Green Day, Blink 182, Biffy Clyro, Jimmy Eat World, Gob, Sum41, The Ataris, Thin Lizzy…the list goes on.
Rob: If you could go back into any time period and hear a live music performance, who would you want to go hear and why?
Anthony: I can’t speak for everyone in the band but I would say the Beatles. They changed everything. I would have loved to hear their sound live, raw, and in person.
Rob: If you could perform at one venue what would it be and why?
Anthony: It would have to be where we saw our first punk rock concert, which was MXPX at the Phoenix in Toronto. Something about playing on that stage would allow us to come full circle from when we started. It was the first place that we experienced punk rock. We have played so many venues but this for us would be something special.
Rob: What is your favorite thing to do as a band on a day off?
Anthony: We love to site see and relax. In a middle of a long tour we plan for a few days off to recharge the batteries. I typically love when we have long meals together. It is a time to catch up with one another and enjoy more of the adventure.
Rob: What is something about you or the band you would like fans to know about?
Anthony: We recorded our song “Anything for you” in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Many people don’t know that.
Rob: In 3 words describe your new song “All The Right Pieces?”
Anthony: Honest, fun, upbeat.
