Alex Di Leo Interview

alex-di-leo-70s-car

Alex Di Leo is a solo artist that you need to listen to. His new album “So We Go” comes out on Friday. Immediately, I was hooked by his infectious voice. In this interview, we talk about his musical influences, the new EP, and much more.

Rob: When did you start playing music?

Alex: I got my first guitar when I was 10 years old from my Grandma. It was totally a random gift but I went with it. I put together my first band with a close friend when I was 13. We won some middle school talent shows then decided to do more with it. We picked up a few different members in high school and opened up for a couple national acts. During my senior year the band came to an end and that’s when I became a solo artist. Throughout the last two years, I worked with four different producers to finds the sounds I’d been looking for and here I am today.

Rob: What was the first album you purchased?

Alex: I’m pretty sure the first album I purchased was ‘How To Save a Life’ by The Fray.

Rob: What inspired your new single “Make It Easier”?

Alex: I think it was a series of things that I came to realize over the last few years, a combination of things is what inspired me to write the song. Taking chances, loving something or someone with everything you’ve got, as passionately as possible, and doing your best as staying as young as you can.

Rob: How did you come up with the title of your first EP?

Alex: “So We Go” is also a title of one of the tracks in the EP. But it also came from the fact that this is my first release and that my life is about taking chances.

Rob: What are the different themes of this record?

Alex: Throughout the EP you’ll hear about the beginning of a relationship and how fun and adventurous it is and the exciting times in general. You’ll also hear the ups and downs, the tough times filled with insecurity and disbelief. It talks about believing in one another and trusting in the fact that together we can make this happen.

Rob: What is your vision for the future?

Alex: My vision for the future is to tour, and get into some festivals next year. I want to continue sharing more of my songs and videos that are in the process of being worked on at the moment.

Another future goal is to share my music with as many fans around the world and to one day be able perform in major festivals, arenas, and venues throughout as many different countries as I possibly can.

Rob: What is the greatest joy of being a solo artist?

The greatest joy of being a solo artist is being able to be as creative as you want. My band also influences me on many ideas throughout a song, arrangement wise, different sounds, and sometimes even melodies. I greatly appreciate this because it helps balance me out.

Rob: If you could collaborate with one musician who would it be and why?

If I could collaborate with any artist my dream would be to write with Chris Martin from Coldplay. His melodies have inspired so much of the way I write and I’d wonder what the two of us would be able to create together.

You can pick up “So We Go” on iTunes.
