This Week in Music: Knuckle Puck, Kane Brown, SOW and More!

This is my favorite time of the year (minus pumpkin flavored everything). The weather starts to get colder, Halloween, lots of amazing fall tours and new music. This past weekend yielded some of the best music released all year, in my opinion. Let’s just jump right in.

Knuckle Puck  – Shapeshifter

Now, I’m sure any avid fan of pop punk didn’t miss this release but we HAVE to talk about it for a second. HOLY WOW. This album is something else. I’m having a hard time putting it into words. It has an elevated and mature sound while still keeping the ambition and aggressiveness they’re known for. Maybe I’m a little biased because I have an undying love for KP but this might be the album of the year. It’s THAT good. If you haven’t yet, definitely go give it a spin. You can do so here.

Dylan Lloyd and Nick Urb –  One Day

Arguably one of the most prolific songwriters in the game right now, Dylan Lloyd teamed up with label mate and Spotify sensation, Nick Urb to release a solid EP this past friday titled “One Day”. Thank goodness there is a repeat feature because three song album is over quickly but definitely leaves you wanting more. Great for a morning commute, cleaning around the house and anything in between, you can listen to the album here.

Kane Brown – Kane Brown (Deluxe Edition)

Okay, so this self-titled album originally came out in 2016 and the deluxe edition came out two weeks ago but I’m adding it in here because I slept on it. I first heard of Kane Brown through Facebook. Someone had shared a video of him covering a George Strait song. I’ll admit my initial reaction was less than favorable. Maybe I was a little jealous of his amazing voice, but I definitely superficially judged him too. (Sorry Kane!) Despite my mental protest, I kept up with him because I was secretly a fan. I watched him grow from this rough looking kid posting covers online to signing a major label deal and becoming a national sensation. This album solidifies his vocal talents as more than just the kid on Facebook. This deluxe edition adds a few more songs including one with Chris Young and his newest single “What’s Mine Is Yours”. You can watch the super cute video for it here!

Shadow Of Whales – Spotify Playlist

Okay, so this isn’t exactly a new release but I was so excited about this playlist, I just had to share! Austin, TX band, Shadow of Whales has pieced together a playlist of all their favorite/friend bands from their area and it is one h*ck of a playlist. I never realized how many amazing bands were in the Austin area. The playlist features the likes of Forever Starts Today, Burning Years, Nominee and more. If you’re looking for new music or artists to fall in love with, look no further! Again, maybe I’m a little biased here because this is basically one big homie playlist but every single band on this playlist is so great a deserves all the recognition. Thanks SOW for reminding me how cool the ATX music scene is. You can stream the playlist here!

P!nk – Beautiful Trauma

I was excited to see P!nk had released a new album titled “Beautiful Trauma”. It had been years since I had heard any new music from her but know she always knocks it out of the park. After seeing her on a few late night shows promoting the release, I was very interested to hear a more mature sounding P!nk, especially after hearing she’d teamed up with Eminem for a song. However, I must say I was less than impressed with this album. P!nk has been known for her powerful, engaging and strong image and while those things are still present in her music, Beautiful Trauma still lacks the angst and gusto that used to make her music so enjoyable. There are some really good songs on this album, but I can’t quite shake the feeling that this is a hit and miss in her discography. Maybe it will grow on me as I continue to listen to it.

Shameless self promotion here but my single “Glad It’s You’ is now available on all major platforms. Give it a spin and tell me what you think!
